Krishna Janmashtami, also known as Gokulashtami or Krishna Jayanti, is a religious festival that marks the birth of Lord Krishna. He is believed to be an eighth and powerful incarnation of Lord Vishnu. He was born to Princess Devaki and Vasudeva but was raised by Yashoda and Nanda. Janmashtami is celebrated in the eighth day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Shravan of the dark fortnight. The day is celebrated with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm not just in India but around the globe. In 2018, Krishna Janmashtami falls on September 2 this year and ends on September 3.
